Located in the very centre of the three Baltic countries, Riga is also the largest and the only Baltic metropolis with over 1 million inhabitants. It has become a place to be for such large companies as Accenture, Tieto, Circle K, Transcom, C.T.CO, VISMA and many others, employing about 9,000 employees in 2019. As this is only 1% of the total population of Riga, the city has considerable potential to develop rapidly, not only compared to the largest cities within the CEE region, but also the other two Baltic capitals.
An exceptional advantage of Riga is its international airport – the largest in the Baltics. In 2019, the airport served 7.8 million passengers, doubled since 2009 – nearly half of the total passenger traffic of Baltic airports. The national airline AirBaltic offers around 100 direct flight connections to major international destinations. Riga accommodated more than 1.7 million tourists in 2018 and has a stable highest growth of the hotel visitors and overnights among the Baltic capitals since 2009.
